Is the essence of competition to put yourself out there and display your skills as best as you can, and enjoy the sport, or is it to win?

    to put yourself out there. then you are only judging yourself.

    Both? I like to put myself out there and try to win, but I also enjoy playing with competition that's better than me as that's the only way I'll truly learn and grow.
